Flu flu arrows use full length turkey wing feathers, including the cock feather and quill, wrapped in a tight spiral around the shaft. These untrimmed feathers are not shaped like standard fletchings. The full length spiral wrap dramatically increases drag, slowing the arrow down fast after leaving the bow.

Flu Flu Arrows
A flu flu arrow is a type of arrow built for short distance shooting. Instead of standard vane fletchings, flu flu arrows use oversized feathers wrapped around the shaft, either in a spiral wrap or as multiple large feathers spaced around the shaft. Either approach creates drag, slowing the arrow down quickly after leaving the bow. The result is an arrow that stays on target at close range but drops out of the air before it travels too far, making recovery far easier than with a regular hunting arrow.
Adventures Archery carries fletched flu flu arrows from Gold Tip, Carbon Express, and Easton. Browse the products above or visit our Tampa and Lakeland archery shops to find the right flu flu for your setup.
Flu Flu Arrow Features and Construction
Feather Fletching Design
Carbon Shaft Construction
Most flu flu arrow shafts use carbon composite construction for strength and durability. The Gold Tip Flu Flu (.246) features a thick-walled 100% carbon shaft at +/-.006 inch straightness. The Carbon Express Flu Flu uses six oversized 4-inch feathers on a carbon composite shaft.
Intended Use and Range Limitation
The oversized fletchings limit a flu flu to roughly 30 to 40 yards depending on the feather setup and bow. That short range is the point. For bird hunting, rabbit and squirrel hunting, and aerial target practice, the arrow stays close after a miss, making recovery quick and keeping shots safe at short distance.
Flu Flu vs. Standard Fletched Arrows
The significant difference between a flu flu and a standard fletched arrow is the fletching itself. A standard arrow uses trimmed vanes or cut feathers that minimize drag and carry the arrow downrange. A flu flu uses whole feather fletchings wrapped in a spiral that dramatically increases air resistance. That drag is by design. For aerial targets or small game at close range, the self-limiting distance of a flu flu is an advantage. For ground hunting at longer yardage, a field point arrow or blunt arrow with standard fletchings is the better choice. Flu Flu Arrow FAQs
Flu flu arrows are used for bird hunting, small game hunting (rabbit, squirrel), and aerial target practice. The oversized feather fletchings limit flight to roughly 30 to 40 yards, making the arrow easy to recover after a miss and reducing the risk of losing it in the field.
Yes. Flu flu arrows are designed for hunting small game and birds at close range. They are not a replacement for a regular hunting arrow at distance. For larger animals or shots beyond 40 yards, use a standard fletched hunting arrow with the appropriate broadhead or field point.
Yes. Flu flu arrows work with compound bows, recurves, and longbows. Make sure the spine matches your draw weight and the nock fits your bowstring. A full-capture rest like a whisker biscuit can work well with flu flu arrows on many compound setups.
